Ypsilanti Township apartment fire displaces two residents

By Heather Lockwood

Ypsilanti Township firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire that displaced two residents in the 2800 block of Bynan Drive at about 11:15 a.m. today.

The fire at the Villas at Golfside Lake was started by a "careless cook," said Ypsilanti Township Fire Capt. Larry James.

Only one unit was affected, no one was injured and two residents were displaced — it is unclear for how long, James said.

James said firefighters were at the scene for about 90 minutes.

"They're going to pretty much have to gut the kitchen and start over," he said.

Though no official damage estimate has been calculated, James said it would likely be around $3,000.
