Ypsilanti Township Dairy Mart on Textile Road not affected by liquor license suspension

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The liquor license suspension for a Dairy Mart on Grove Road in Ypsilanti Township does not affect liquor sales at a second store owned by the same man.

An AnnArbor.com article Wednesday incorrectly reported that the suspension applied to a store at 2375 Grove Road owned by Saleh Hamati and a second store Hamati owns at 10131 Textile Road. Only the Grove Road store is affected by the 60-day suspension.

Hamati said he primarily manages the Textile Road location and previously left management of the Grove Road store to an employee. He said he recently fired all his employees, hired a new manager and spends more time at the Grove Road location. He also said he has taken significant steps to improve both buildings.

The previous manager of the Grove Road store sold alcohol to minors on three occasions within 24 months, the Liquor Control Commission determined. Three incidents within 24 months is grounds for suspension or revocation of a liquor license per LCC rules. The sales occurred during Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office sting operations in December 2009 and June 2010.

Hamati said the Grove Road store is a different place than it was last year.

“I have an undercover cop coming in every day, and it is very clean,” he said of the Grove Road store. “When I take over the place from the manager, I removed the adult magazines and turned into a nice family store. Customers are happy to see it.”

Is that really a solid use of sheriff patrol time? Basically hiring 18-21 year old kids to make a sale of alcohol. Of course that same kid could buy all the porn magazines int he joint. Buy cigarettes. Be obligated to a contract from buying a house. They could be placed into war. They are allowed to VOTE. They are allowed to get married. They are considered an adult in EVERY single facet of their lives except buying alcohol. It is also ironic that if the person murders somebody they are tried as an adult, but if they do it with a beer in their hand they would get ticketed for a minor in possession. Another crap law forced on us by the republicans (Ronald Reagan demanded states do it in exchange for highway funds). I wonder how the tea baggers feel about Reagan since there is absolutely mention of the federal government being involved in this in the constitution.

I'm gonna check that out. It use to bother me, seeing those mags out on display. It is one the reasons, I stopped going there. I have another strong suggestion for Mr. Hamati. STOP ALL THE LOITERING OUTSIDE YOUR STORES! Your losing business over that.
