The nonprofit operates without any government funding and relies on donations and fundraisers to provide a place for seniors to socialize, have lunch, exercise and participate in activities. There are more than 600 members who count on this center, as well as homebound residents who are called on a regular basis by staff at the senior center who check in to see how they are and to offer a friendly voice.

The lights dim, the stage is set, black curtain and all. Come and join us for “Masquerade”! Co-producers/directors Heather Dove GreenLeaf and Jennifer Peek bring you a spectacular evening full of wonderful performances of riveting Broadway hits featuring a talented cast from the Washtenaw County area.

This year's show will feature songs from "The Phantom of the Opera," "The Lion King," "Wicked," "Evita," "Hairspray" and more. Last year guests were treated to “Everything’s Coming Up Broadway” classic Broadway hits from the 1930’s to the 1970’s.

A look at the 2009 talent

GreenLeaf and Peek team up again this year to raise money for the Chelsea Senior Citizens Activities Center. The nonprofit community organization serves Chelsea area senior citizens and their families. Each day they provide a place for seniors to call to get information, to socialize with friends, to experience wellness and to receive support.

“The center offers adults 50 years of age and older a one-stop place for health, fun and information as well as a social setting for enjoying lifelong hobbies, exploring new interests, and volunteering - we offer a community focal point for older people.” says Lindsay Bacon, executive director of the senior center.

Peek and GreenLeaf have really enjoyed being a part of this fundraiser as performers the first two years and now on the planning side as well. Many of last year's performers are returning to volunteer their time and talents to help raise funds to support the enter.

Tickets may be purchased at Chelsea Pharmacy or by calling the Chelsea Senior Center directly at 734-475-9242. For $35 you will receive dinner prepared by the staff at the Chelsea Comfort Inn and a terrific show. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Chelsea Comfort Inn Conference Center.
