Help pass the Alzheimer's Breakthrough Act
The Alzheimer’s Association has announced a need for 50,000 messages to reach Congress by World Alzheimer’s Day, Sep. 21st, to pass the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act.
This extremely important act will increase funding to expand and initiate programs so desperately needed by Alzheimer’s patients and their families.
An increase in funding will expand research for diagnostic testing, prevention, and treatment toward a cure. Education programs for the general public, patients, families, and health-care professionals will be expanded and a grant will be available for communities to establish and maintain an Alzheimer’s Call Center, available 24/7 for expert advice, resources, care consultations, and response to emergent situations.
The needs of Alzheimer’s patients and their families are great. This is one of the most devastating, difficult diseases a family can face. An Alzheimer’s diagnosis brings a whole host of emotions, changes and stressors to a family. There comes a desperation for answers to a variety of questions about what the family can and will do, now and in the future.
The Alzheimer’s Association reports more than 5 million American’s are currently suffering with this cruel disease, and every 70 seconds someone is developing Alzheimer’s. If you don’t currently know a family dealing with Alzheimer’s, you almost surely will, and it could be your own family.
It is more imperative than ever that we stand together as a nation, and write our Congress members to pass the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act. For a full description of the act go to http://www.kintera.org/atf/cf/%7BB96E2E84-AF7D-4656-9C86-285306F00E19%7D/s1492.pdf
