Jason Frenzel: alien destroyer and protector of Ann Arbor's natural areas

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Jason Frenzel wages war every day against alien invaders in Ann Arbor's parks and natural areas. A Concentrate article today profiles Frenzel's efforts in his job as volunteer and outreach coordinator for the Natural Area Preservation Unit in Ann Arbor's Parks Department.

The article, part of Concentrate's "Mastermind" series, discusses Frenzel's coordination of volunteer armies to pull invasive species from parks and other natural areas and the use of controlled burns to kill the invaders.

"Frenzel's parents didn't raise him to make plant life go up in flames," the article says. "They did provide lots of opportunities for him to go out in the woods and lakes, he recalls. That led to Michigan State University and a degree in tree-hugging (his word)."
