Store openings to look forward to in Ann Arbor
I've been looking forward to keeping tabs on new store openings with this blog, but needless to say, the economy has kept that task quiet. This week however, I spotted a number of newcomers to watch for:
Gji‘s Sweet Shoppe: On Washtenaw East of Huron Parkway: Neighbors tell me that this candy heaven is hoping to open in time for Halloween. Look for ice cream and soda pop as well as yummy popcorn and nostalgic candies. Might be a perfect follow up to dinner at nearby Chipotle. This location used to hold Boersma Travel’s second location. Boersma can still be found in Nickel’s Arcade.
Packard Market Place: On Packard East of Platt:
Construction is going strong despite the unhelpful weather October has provided. According to Business Review Archives :“That part of Ann Arbor has developed an identity as a cultural hub, which is home to an Asian restaurant and several specialty grocers, including Euro Market and Nabalee Produce Market.”Maple Shoppes: Corner of Maple and Dexter Ave.: Aldi looks nearly complete and ready for Opening soon. This store offers a much different, minimalist option for groceries and other items, than the nearby Plum Market.
Walmart: South State at US-12 (Michigan Avenue): This list would not be complete without mentioning the much anticipated and discussed Walmart that has its grand opening scheduled for Wednesday at 9am. Annarbor.com reports the latest on the superstore here.

Think!: Not all of these businesses have opening dates scheduled as of yet, and at times the scheduled date changes. As more information becomes available to me I will gladly pass it along.

Was contacting businesses to find out the opening dates too much trouble?
