This handsome fellow is James. He was left outside, tied to a fence, for many hours before someone realized he was really being abandoned. Fortunately for him, animal control was notified, and James was brought to the Humane Society of Huron Valley where he could be cared for. When James sees you, he does a happy dance! All he has to do is see a treat, and he'll instantly sit and wait for it.

James is a Belgian Shepherd/Chow Chow mix. He is about 3 years old, but he has the energy of a puppy. Because he is part herding breed dog, James will require a lot of exercise in order to make him a healthy and happy companion. We do know James walks well on a leash and when he visited the "March for the Mutts" parade in Depot Town, James did very well around other dogs and in crowds.

Since James has a herding instinct, he would not be a good dog for a home with cats. While James is a nice boy, he might accidentally knock down small children, so we think the best home for James would be home where any children are at least 12 years or older.

One very important thing you need to keep in mind when thinking about adopting an active dog is whether your lifestyle fits the dog. Do you spend time outside? Do you like to jog or go for long walks? James is a dog that needs large amounts of activity or he could become bored. Bored dogs tend to get in trouble more. If you are making a commitment to an active dog like James you must provide them with the stimulus they need.
