You might be doing a double-take at Goomba’s picture. He does look a bit odd, but we can assure you that this affectionate cat was, and is worth saving.

Goomba, an 11-year-old, long-haired tabby mix, was rescued as a stray by the Humane Society of Huron Valley. His ears were so infected with mites, he’d literally scratched away his fur and skin trying to relieve the constant itching and irritation. By the time we found him, the infection had spread and even one of his eyes had become unusable.

It didn’t take long for us to realize that though Goomba would look strange to most people after his much needed surgery, his loveable nature would hopefully shine through and someone might adopt him because of what he is on the inside — sweet and wonderful.

This one-eyed, no-ear wonder is very grateful to the kind staff and volunteers that helped rehabilitate him — it took almost a month. Now, Goomba's number one goal in life is to win the award for “Lap Cat of the Year,” and we think he's well on his way.

He will purr, drool, chirp, make muffins and head-butt his way into your heart if you'll let him. He's also a very chatty boy that has no problem telling you when he wants some attention.

We think he would do best as the only pet in the home, simply because he wants all of your attention — and he deserves it after what he's been through! Goomba is currently in one of our condos at the shelter, so if you are interested in meeting this fabulous feline, you can come down and give him a chance to win you over!

HSHV relies soley on donations to care for the animals at the shelter. Goomba's medical procedures were covered by our "Furry Godmother Fund," which is money that has been donated specifically for the care and treatment of strays that need much needed TLC so that they will become adoptable. If you are interested in finding out how you can help homeless aniamls in need, please visit our website.

All our adoptable animals have been spayed or neutered, are up to date on all vaccinations, are micro-chipped before leaving the shelter, and all that is included in the very low adoption fee.

Currently, HSHV is running a "Pick Your Cat and Pick Your Price" promotion were we let families decide how much they would be willing to donate to provide a caring home for any adult cat. We do ask for a minimum of $5.
