Procter & Gamble issues voluntary recall on some Eukanuba, Iams pet food formulas
The included products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site.
According to a Food and Drug Administration release, routine testing by the company revealed that some products made during that time have the potential for Salmonella contamination.
As a precautionary measure, P&G has issued a recall of the potentially impacted products, which include popular brands like Iams and Eukanuba.
No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, dog biscuits or treats are affected by this recall.
These lots were distributed in the United States.
Salmonella, also referred to as salmonellosis, causes digestive problems, and mammals typically present with fever, diarrhea, vomiting and weakness. Other symptoms can occur. Some animals with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. It should be noted that some animals will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If your pet exhibits any of sign of illness and has consumed this product, they should be seen by their veterinarian immediately.
Salmonella can affect other animals as well — not just the pets who consume the product. There is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products. People handling dry pet food of any kind and/or treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the treats or any surfaces exposed to any contaminated product.
Affected formulas include but are not limited to Eukanuba Dog Food Base Large Breed Mature Adult, Eukanuba Dog Food Base Maintenance Puppy, Iams Dog Food Healthy Naturals Chicken Adult, Iams Dog Food ProActive Health Large Breed Senior Plus, Iams Cat Food Healthy Naturals Chicken Adult, Iams Cat Food ProActive Health Weight Control & Hairball Adult and Iams Cat Food ProActive Health Weight Control Adult.
Consumers who purchased a product listed below should stop using the product and discard it and contact P&G directly, toll-free at 800-208-0172 (Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. EST), or by logging onto www.iams.com or www.eukanuba.com.
