Unsure of how to handle stray animals? Get the right information from the experts

By Lorrie Shaw

The unexpected situation happens all too often when an individual finds a pet wandering around, and those involved in the animal care field are often asked the question: "If I encounter a stray animal, what should I do?"

It's a daunting situation, certainly, and many people are willing to do what they can to help.

David Caddell, director of Ann Arbor Animal Hospital addresses the topic of what to do when one finds a stray animal in the latest "Ask the Expert" column.

You'll read about what to do when encountering a stray, what a veterinarian is able to do and steps to keep your own pets from becoming lost. This article is great to keep on hand as it lists resources and contact information of organizations that are trained to handle unknown animals.

There is a link to the topic; just hover over the highlighted area that says "what to do when one finds a stray animal" and vlock it. It will take you to this weeks' "Ask Your Local Expert" segment, which will detail all about how to handle situations with a lost pet. I hope that this helps, and I know that you'll find the segment enlightening.

what really gets me is the people that let their pets run loose. you have a dog law that says they have to be on a leash. you have to pu the waste. this is for dogs only. now cats run loose they have to do what dogs do. but no pick up because we have no law for cats. they run all night. this is not fair for people who have to live with the smell and the waste. i think ann arbor is wrong. should be a cat and dog law.
