Briarwood Mall merchants featured on Fox 2 for Back to School
Fox 2 wants to know, with back-to-school time quickly approaching, what can we expect to see this year?
As we gear up for going back to school, you can expect to see a lot of colorful shirts, floral prints and the bohemian style that has become very popular over the last few years with girls. For the boys, you will see a lot of “preppy chic” that mixes a classic school look with the latest fashions and as well “West Coast style” that we will show you today.
.
Our first model, Kristine, is wearing Haute Heritage collection found at Vanity. She is showing off the latest trend: the off the shoulder shirt with a bow on the sleeve paired with a brown racer-back tank underneath. Kristine has added a trendy floral scarf to bring some color to her outfits. The dark denim, which is from Vanity’s exclusive Premium Denim Collection, has embellishments on the back pocket that looks great with the grey gladiator heels. Adding accessories to complete the look, Kristine is ready to strut down the hallways.
Up next is Ariana, our model from GapKids, wearing their Portabello Road Collection. The straight fit embroidered jeans are a perfect fit for flats this fall or boots this winter. Her corduroy blazer has cute girly detail on the back for a more fitted look and the chiffon rose pairs perfectly with the embroidery on the denim. The hooded ribbed sweater under the blazer is perfect for layering when we move from fall to winter. And the look is accented with a belt and headband that adds just enough pop! Her
Alyssa is wearing a look from The Children’s Place. It hits on all the season’s biggest trends. Her cascade tutu skirt adds a great pop of color and texture, and the classic denim jacket layered with a floral print long sleeve shirt will be a very popular trend this year. We added a touch of sparkle with the jeweled headband and ballet flat to complete this look. All in all, it’s the perfect first day of school ensemble. Stride Rite provided the shoes and backpack by Glitzy Pets Koko, and her whole ensamble was completed by her hair at Tricho Salon and Spa.
Pat is sporting the west coast style from The Buckle. He has on their exclusive denim label, BKE, with a straight leg bottom to show off the new Nike 6.0 tennis shoe. Layering is going to be extremely popular this school year and Pat’s outfit is no exception. He is wearing a bright colored Hurley tee layered under a plaid Hurley fleece. And when the weather starts to get chilly, he will be ready with the multipurpose black Billabong jacket. For the finishing touches, Pat has on a Hurley hat and backpack to kick off the new school year.
Last but not least, we have Miss Ann Arbor, Bethani Emeri, wearing the urban explorer look from The Buckle. The look features lots of layers that incorporate earthy tones, flyaway vests and suede-braided belts. The Big Star jeans featured here are great for back to school because of the clean finish and minimal destruction. Bethani is also wearing Roxy boots with buckles and washed pleather detailing that will be a must have for every girl this school year.

Thank you, Denise. I think you do a good job of making it clear that you are employed by the mall (use of the word "we" for example.) My issue is not with you or your writing. In fact, I think you deserve a raise for landing this. I'm concerned that a news entity allows, what are essentially press releases, to be distributed along with news content. Who decides what companies get to do that? Can McDonald's have a person write about their latest additions or remodelings? I'm consistently surprised by the lack of forethought with aa.com.

Hi, Rodney, I agree that there is a fine line that I try to respect between being a contributor, and covering news about the mall. Chefs cover cooking, writers cover book reviews, and retail people cover fashion. On topics such as back-to-school fashion, I contribute to annarbor.com. If there was a news topic of a more serious nature, such as crime statistics, leasing, sales trends, and stability of retail in the Ann Arbor market, that would and should be covered by a skilled reporter that can cover several sides to an issue. I hope people enjoy my postings, and I think that contributors enrich the content of annarbor.com.

I have a question about this. I see Ms. Murray is a marketing director for Briarwood. Looking at previous posts, her stories are little more than press releases for the mall. So why is she listed as a Community Contributor? Can any corporation enlist their PR people as writers for the site? If so, my company would be very interested in that.
