Ann Arbor stores that were open on Thanksgiving appeared to attract many shoppers.

Meijer on Carpenter Road had a line by 5 a.m. for its 6 a.m. doorbusters, according to reports from the store.

Most popular was a Nintendo Wii accessory, but the store - along with others in the region - sold out of them quickly.

By 8 a.m., the parking lot remained at least half-full and about 1/3 of the cashier lanes were open.

Later, at about 1 p.m., the Old Navy at Arborland had a line about 14 shoppers deep as that store opened on Thanksgiving Day for the first time. Within 30 minutes, the crowd had already thinned, but inventory levels still looked deep enough for a serious crush on Black Friday.
