Adrian Witty still waiting on eligibility ruling so he can join Michigan football team

By Dave Birkett

Freshman cornerback Adrian Witty said Sunday he retook the SAT last week in an attempt to gain eligibility in time to play this fall.

Witty said he's home in Florida, sometimes working out with his old high school team and keeping in touch with Michigan coaches while he waits on a stamp of approval from the NCAA Clearinghouse.

The only member of Michigan's 2009 class not on campus, Witty said he took the test Monday, by himself, at Deerfield Beach High School.

"I think I did good on it," Witty said.

Though it's unlikely he'll see the field this year even if he's cleared, Witty said he's holding out hope for immediate playing time.

"It all depends on when I get back and what coaches want to do," Witty said, adding he doesn't know when he'll learn results of the test.

"I'm just going by what I’m hearing and just going from there," he said. "My coaches have been calling me and letting me know what’s up, what’s practice been going through. I'm just waiting to be cleared."

Michigan opens the 2009 season Saturday against Western Michigan.

I saw Adrian at my Alma Mater's preseason game last Friday. We back here in Deerfield Beach know he's just as good an athlete as Denard and any expectations that he won't play this season are shirt of unrneal. He will make the grade and eventually everyone in Ann Arbor will know where Deerfield Beach is.

i am going to guess that he didnt do well and join osu's academically challenged rb (hyde) in prep school. either way he would be smart to ask for a red shirt as he is so far behind the grade that he would just be wasting a year of eligibility

I would take a two star player out of florida over Morgan Trent on the field coverage skills anyday, but hey if he can't make the grade so be it we got Denard and his four star ratings and 4.3 speed. I'd say giving a player a chance to make the team worth a possible starting QB!
