Akron tops Michigan women's soccer in season opener; Eastern Michigan ties Pittsburgh in final seconds

The Michigan women’s soccer team opened its season with a 1-0 loss to Akron Friday night at the U-M Soccer Stadium.
Akron’s Kyarah Foushee scored the game’s lone goal in the 39th minute and goalkeeper Jeny Wolbert made nine saves in the shutout.
The Wolverines outshot Akron 17-9 -- led by five shots from sophomore Nkem Ezurike -- and earned eight corner kicks to the Zips’ two. (Boxscore)
Michigan hosts Oakland at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Eastern Michigan 2, Pittsburgh 2: With seconds remaining in regulation, freshman Emily Dzik found an open Cara Cutaia who sent a looping shot over Pitt goalkeeper Kristina Rioux's head to send the game to overtime. Neither team was able to break the deadlock in 30 minutes of extra play. EMU freshman Angela Vultaggio scored the game's first goal in the 70th minute. (Boxscore)
