Big Ten Network: You can just call us BTN

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Nobody refers to ABC as the American Broadcasting Company, right?

The television network formerly known as Big Ten Network is now just plain ol' BTN, according to a release on its website today.

There's a new logo, a new website (BTN.com, although that bounces you to the BigTenNetwork.com domain) and new team-specific logos for all 12 universities under its coverage umbrella (see Michigan's at right).

There will be a complete redesign of the network’s graphics, animation and music packages. The network says viewers will see those for the first time during coverage of the Big Ten Football Media Days and Kickoff Luncheon in July.

“Fans, viewers, media and our colleagues have already naturally gravitated toward the BTN name in recent years. It makes sense to adopt it,” network president Mark Silverman said. “These changes are a logical step in our evolution, and give us an umbrella under which we can launch other businesses across digital platforms during our next phase of growth and development.”

How much did the consultants cost that came out with this "innovative" new name?

Maybe they should work on advancing their production quality rather than their logo. Seriously, I can't stand this network.

They are hoping that we forget that the "T" in BTN is for "Ten" and not "Twelve"
