Big Ten preview: A look at the Ohio State Buckeyes

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Four consecutive Big Ten titles should have the Ohio State Buckeyes feeling pretty good about themselves. Instead, they enter the fall searching for an identity.

Their two losses in recent BCS championship games have contributed to the Big Ten's tarnished reputation. Moreso, the Buckeyes are fielding the youngest and most inexperienced team of Jim Tressel's tenure in Columbus.

So what's in store for 2009?

Despite the lack of experience, the Buckeyes are preseason favorites to add to their streak of Big Ten titles.

At least, that's the pressure the Buckeyes are feeling as sky-high expectations become an annual expectation in Columbus. None of the seniors want to be the ones to stop the conference title streak. None of them want to be the first to lose to Michigan either, writes AnnArbor.com's Michael Rothstein.

If the Buckeyes are going to maintain their dominance, they must rely on sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor to lead the team. Michigan fans may remember Pryor from his high-publicized jilting of the Wolverines as a high school senior. After an up-and-down freshman season, Ohio State is hoping he fulfills his seemingly unlimited potential.

Can he lead the Buckeyes toward another BCS game? In today's edition of "For Argument's Sake," AnnArbor.com reporters Dave Birkett and Michael Rothstein say no. They both think the Big Ten will have a new champion come December.
