Michigan is soft and is not tough enough to rebound and defend. Michigan needs big men inside to rebound and defend inside. Also they should be scoring alternatives if the defense guards the threes. Beilein in 3 years did not recruit big men as centers and power forwards that can be used immediately? Since Sims and Gibson will be out next year? Relying on the threes is a gimmick offense coz the defense will just extend beyond the arc and then that gimmick is stopped. That zone is a gimmick defense as the opposing team will just slash the middle and pound the ball inside. No rebounding and interior defense. This Michigan team is soft and small and their gimmick offense and defense is not gonna last the tought Big 10.

musthaved : I haven't any desire to insult or denigrate the team. This team is just not very good and the coaching is even worse. They cannot score in the paint, cannot rebound, and attempt and miss too many three-point shots. Both the football and basketball program has fallen on hard times. I don't know what the solution is, but I suppose when the donors start complaining, someone will finally listen and implement corrective action.

yeah lets fire beilein. I mean do u see the way he shoots players those dirty looks. and i think i might of saw him yell at a player or two.HE'S NO MICHIGAN MAN!!!I mean what a gimmick 1-3-1, and all those three pointers.WE should just fire him now.I mean he didn't win every game.Come on were michigan just fire him. lol you people crack me up. If you all had your way michigan would be lookin for a new coach every year in every sport. Im mean gimmick, and will never work in the big ten? sounds like something i might of saw on this website once before.OH WHAT THATS EVERY TIME I GET ON HERE!!!!!!

I can't believe the nature of most of these comments. Completely unconstructive. Michigan is disappointing right now and was certainly overrated, but is anybody here actually an M basketball fan with intelligent observations about Michigan's ills or you just want to insult them?

With each passing year, I expected DeShawn Simms to get a little stronger and a little tougher. He showed flashes last year of the player he could be, but this kid has no heart and continues to play like a freshman instead of a team leading senior. Gibson and Cronin might not be legit NCAA centers, but at least they try to play the post. After Manny, this team is soft, softer and softest. They would have trouble competing in the womens league. The Big 10 will eat them up like men playing against boys. Where are the Power Forward and Center recruits? How will this team ever be competitive without any inside game or rebounding?

Beilein had 3 years to get a few effective inside big men that can rebound, defend and score inside and he did not. Not a single player. I would'nt count Cronin as an "effective" big man if he is injured for 2 years. All Beilein did recruit were all guards to the point of having a 4 guard or even a 5 guard lineup. If the defense guards the threes, you must have big men to score inside and free the shooters! I can't believe that Beilein did not get a single big man in 3 years! Next year when Gibson and Sims move out, who do we have?

Beilein himself admitted that this team wasn't worthy of the 15th ranking it received. This team is not ready for a Big Ten season, they are more suited to play in the MAC conference. We have no threat in the low post.

Beilein's gimmick offense and defense were already exposed. Teams will just defend the perimeter more against the threes and then pound the ball inside on offense. A gimmick offense/defense will not work in the bigtime. Same thing in football. 3 point shots will not go in when the defense extends and if you are small, when you are up against good bigger players, gimmicks will not work. One should be big and tough and scrappy. Too bad, this team was exposed early in the season.

The more I watch M, the more I come to understand why they rely upon the 3 point shot. No inside game, no outside game. M just doesn't have the athletes. Why they were ranked 15th at the beginning of the season is a complete mystery to me.
