Is it a shot at Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez? Or a call out to his old coach?

Former Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards introduced himself on NBC's Sunday Night football as being from "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan" before the New York Jets-Cincinnati Bengals game on Sunday, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The Jets beat the Bengals, 37-0. Edwards finished with two catches for 15 yards.

btw Lloyd Carr went 122-41 with multiple Big Ten championships and a National Championship. He developed many players in to successful people and a good number to professional careers. Those of you that judge him on the App State game, or the last few years vs. OSU are complete idiots. The guy was/is a legend in college football coaching. Comparing the current imbecile to Lloyd is like comparing used toilet paper to the Shroud of Turin.

Rich Rod is a controversial and polarizing figure. He has also destroyed the Michigan football program with his poor coaching, which is evident by the sloppy play on the field. Braylon Edwards is a major donor to the program and a legendary WR. Dhani Jones was a leading member of the 97 NC team, and long time NFL pro. Those guys have earned every word that they speak about the current state of "Michigan Football". Q) When was the last time you watched Michigan and said "wow...now that is a very well coached team!" crickets

No matter what many of you think L.Carr was a pretty darn good coach. True, he lost to Appalachian State but A.S. were really good too! Toledo wouldn't have beat A.S. nor would the other bottom dwellers in the Big Ten. He still got us a NC and produced some of the greatest kids in the country and he kept up our great tradition with class. And for the record the Spread is nothing new and considering it progressive is silly. At Georgia Tech they use the wishbone and it has made them successful. (I think the wishbone is over 60 years old.)

i agree that Michigan has to break the Bo line and move into the present,I just don't know if RR is the man to do that. His list of accomplishments aren't that impressive to me...and I just don't trust him. Just my opinion though..based on not much. I guess the thing to do is look at next years schedule and figure out if the can become bowl bound. If not, RR isn't going to be coaching the year aftet that.

Why say anything in public that could put the university that you supposedly love in a bad light? Braylon must go to the Jim Harbaugh School for the Advancement of Negative University of Michigan Press. Keep it to yourself, Braylon. Not cool.

Exactly, Lok. 1/2 National Championship in 40 years of the Bo bloodline style of coaching. App. State runs the spread and we now have the spread guru. We just need to finish getting all the pieces. It'll take a little more time, but I feel with RR at Michigan, the BCS championship will be within reach soon.

Well that's one more National Championship than Bo. Well, techincally 1/2. But yeah i agree he was a stand up guy and pure class all the way.

It's hard to imagine that Edward's comment was NOT a shot at the RR regime. But, his father, Stan Edwards said on AM 1130 this morning that Braylon has no beefs with Coach Rod and he was just showing support for his former coach. Hard to say, but I think it wasn't necessary to say on national TV and many outsiders would probably interpret it negatively (i.e. Michigan football is a house-divided). Edwards should really concentrate on becoming a better football player rather than getting himself into off-field controversies all the time. Just my opinion.

This is not a story about Braylon Edward, nor is it a story about Rich Rod. It's a story about the detroit freep (caps omitted intentionally)and their long-standing policy of stiring up discontent, bashing and trashing all things UofM.. Any other coverage from any other sources?????? I didn't think so-

Lloyd Carr lost to Jim Tressel 6 out 7 times. Lloyd is a great man, but only a good coach. He lost 4 games or more in five of his 11 years, and never made it to a BCS championship game, while 11 other teams did. Only twice did Lloyd win the Big Ten outright. Michigan should, and can, be better than that. We needed to move on in a new direction.

Must be a slow news day... I don't see anything negative about Rich Rodriguez in these comments. It's funny how you anti-RR trolls jump on ANYTHING that could be perceived as negative towards him. As I recall, Rick Leach was also part of "Michigan tradition". I'm sure you don't give his opinion the same amount of wait, chosen1, because he is pro-RR.

"notice that if anyone says anything negative about rr that the 3 same people( theo, tater, and portage) will insult the players or coaches that were a big part of michigan tradition." Agree.

Why can't wide receivers have more class? It seems that 90% of this need to draw attention to themselves like a teenage girl.

The same Lloyd Carr that lost to DIVISION 2 Appalachian State.

Funny if you're all in for Michigan that you would still be supportive of the former michigan players and not bashing them for shouting out a coach that won a national championship here.
