Coley Crank leads Michigan baseball to season-opening victory, Jordan Taylor throws softball no-hitter
LUBBOCK, Texas - Coley Crank hit three home runs and drove in seven runs in the University of Michigan baseball team's 19-11 opening-day win over Jacksonville State at the Red Raider Classic on Friday.
It was the first three-home run game for the Wolverines since Derek VanBuskirk hit three on April 28, 2008, in a 27-6 win over Michigan State, reports MGoBlue.com.
Freshman leftfielder Patrick Biondi was 3-for-5 with a home run, two stolen bases and three runs batted in while the heart of Michigan's batting order - Ryan LaMarre, Mike Dufek and Nick Urban - combined to go 6-for-12 with four RBI and eight runs scored.
Junior Tyler Burgoon earned the win after allowing six runs on 10 hits over five innings.
SOFTBALL Tiger Classic: Michigan blanked a pair of opponents in the first day of competition in Baton Rouge, La., including a no-hit effort by Jordan Taylor in a 7-0 win over Oklahoma State. Earlier, the Wolverines handed Virginia a 13-0, five-inning loss. Virginia native Dorian Shaw was 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs against the Cavaliers. Roya St. Clair and Maggie Viefhaus homered against Oklahoma State.
