Michigan football bulking up defense on recruiting trail; Dave Brandon unfazed by football 'firestorm' and more

By Kaleb Roedel

Corey Long, ESPN.com recruiting blogger, gives an update on how the Big Ten football teams are doing on the recruiting trail.

Regarding Michigan, Long writes, "Eight of the 14 recruits committed to Michigan are projected to play on the defensive side of the ball, and it's clear that (Rich) Rodriguez needs more impact players on that side of the field."

Long goes on to note: "Four-star linebacker Lamar Dawson (Danville,Ky./Boyle County) will be taking an official to Michigan on Jan. 21."

Come to think of it.... Bo Schembechler....Head coach, Miami(Ohio) came to Michigan and turned the program around in one year. Michael Haywood....Head coach Miami(Ohio) turned their program around...Hmmmmmmm

Skipit.... By your logic, all the Sparty and Buckeye fans calling for RR to get a lifetime contract from Michigan are the enemy. So by your logic, RR needs to be fired immediately because he is supported by the enemy. Make sense??? Didn't think so...neither does your comment. If you ask me, some of these Sparty and OSU fans make sense and seem to care more about a competetive rivalry than this joke that is representing our storied football program. I think if you listened to what theOSU is saying and quit with the "everything is black or white' attitude, you will see that other than when he is being attacked, he has some fairly intelligent opinions. You see, some people miss the competition and meaningful rivalry that UofM brought to the table. Frankly, I'm embarassed that Purdue and Indiana are our new rivals. If anyone believes a GOOD new coach can't come in here and turn this around in a hurry, look at Miami(Ohio). Last year Michael Haywood came in and took over a program in disarray. He had a 1-11 season his first year. In his second year he's playing in the MAC championship. 7-1 in conference this year.

Congratulations to all of you, RR Head Hunters! You think you are doing your team justice by calling on the HC to be fired and by sullying his name? What you fail to realize is that you have actually succeeded in effectively dragging your team down the same mud pit that you are dragging the coach in. Don't you notice how much some OSU & MSU fans feel entitled to give their opinions on a UM forum mostly unchallenged these days? What does that tell you? What's in it for them? Do you actually believe that a Buckeye or a Sparty actually cares for UM? The fact of the matter is, they DO NOT and they CANNOT possibly have UM's best interest in mind because they are the enemy. The light should come on when your vision is the same as that of the enemy. Can you imagine yourself getting recommendations and agreeing with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong-il (sworn enemies of the United States) on what the best direction the United States should take? Think about this for a moment! The Buckeyes may have a goal to win 10 straight against us. They know it will be easier for them to reach that goal with a coaching change. However, they also know that Michigan will be a force to reckon with in the not so distant future if the team is allowed to have some continuity. Our current problems can and will be fixed without necessarily having to have a head coaching change. I know and I understand that this view is not very popular on this forum, but remember that Deming's view wasn't popular in Detroit either. That is why many of you now prefer to buy a Toyota over any American-made car. That is why our tax money had to bail out two of the Big 3.

Yel I wouldn't be surprised. It's why I don't ever count any of these kids until the day they show up. Hart was always a weak commit and when you add in this kid who just commited from Michigan, you can see this coming. I hope the kid decides to stay with Michigan, but honestly, his measurables don't look a lot different than what we already have in the stable.

Rumor mill on various blog sites (including UM pro sites)... Dee Hart is going to decommit from Michigan tomorrow. Looking to go to Bama. Anyone else heard this?

I like how Brandon never gives any positives directly to RichRod. You don't leave a guy hanging like that if you are really in his corner. RichRod is dead man walking.

The UM recruiters can honestly say "Your child will START at Michigan as a Freshman"... pathetic. Theo: I think you ARE Rich Rod himself, he's arrogant enough to do something like that.

I don't think the potential HC change has as much effect on the defensive recruits. After all, no matter what happens to RR, everyone knows there is already great uncertainty as to who will coach the D next year.

Michigan "bulking up" on defense is a little like an anorexic "chowing down" on a bowl of chicken broth.

Chad How about this thougt. RR has demonstrated he can't win against the talented teams in the B10 with the talent he has recruited, lets give another coach a shot and see what he can do with these RR recruits that RR says aren't big enough or fast enough or fundamentally sound enough. My guess with a good HC and competent staff these players will perform at a much higher level than they are under the current staff.

@81wolverine... This is why we need to stop this fire RR campaign. The guy will never get talent if we do this every year. Last years class was trash cause no one was sure he would be coach. We lost are best recruit because he didnt meet standards after the ncaa thought he did. A winning season got us some decent guys to commit more talent than last year now we gotta finish strong. Keep the fire RR campaign i doubt we would, bu show real support we could grab a few of those mentioned talents that can make a an impact next year. The freshman that played this year werent first year impact caliber, maybe special teams but not starters. Those players were thought as development before injuries and players leaving happened.

So... if RR goes after defense big this year, does that mean you really need to give RR 3 more years? Cause after all, none of these kids will be upper classmen for 3 years. Already the excuses are built in for next year. RR had a good defensive recruiting class, but they are all freshman. You can't expect RR to coach freshman, can you?

The rest of this year's recruiting season will be crucial for Michigan. There are a number of very good defensive players we're in play for and if there was ever a time we need them it's now! I think getting a couple more high quality linebackers, a defensive lineman (like Jernigan), and a couple good defensive backs will be a key. I haven't seen anything on any kicker interested in Michigan, which is a big problem. Michigan can finish in the Top 15 in recruiting if we do well down the stretch. Anything less would be a big disappointment. I imagine it won't be very easy with other programs bad-mouthing Michigan because of the coaching uncertainty.

Alright! Way to go, but wait, uhhh...T-2 you haven't been correct on any of your "psychic" observations. I mean, even if you flipped a coin you would have a 50-50 chance of being right. Let's bet. I say he won't sign any contract on Friday and if he does I won't post for two weeks. If he doesn't you don't post for 14 days. Deal?

Harbaugh to sign deal with Russia on Friday to become Cosmonaut. Looks like he's not coming to michigan. You want a link to the story? No can do...I actually learned this in one of my secret meetings, kinda hush-hush. But here is a trite poem on the subject. Harbaughs at Stanford A Michigan Man he's not Theres no more coaching in his future Tomorrow he's a cosmonaut! Long live the swindler and cheat (misunderstanding)! Ten crystals (in eight years) by hook or crook...or winning, I meant!
