David Molk should start against Penn State; Brandon Minor, Boubacar Cissoko updates

By Dave Birkett

Center David Molk remains on track to return from a broken foot and should start Saturday against Penn State, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said before practice Wednesday.

"He did quite a bit (Tuesday) in full pads and the report today from the trainers is that he handled it well," Rodriguez said. "He’s a little sore, as can be expected, but I think he came through it all well so I think he should be fine for Saturday."

Molk has missed four games since sustaining his injury in the first half of Michigan's Sept. 19 win over Eastern Michigan.

David Moosman, who started at center in Molk's place, will return to his regular position of right guard, and Rodriguez said either Mark Huyge or Perry Dorrestein will start at right tackle.

Rodriguez did not announce a starter at running back, but he said Carlos Brown (concussion) has returned to full practice while Brandon Minor (ankle) remains limited. Both sat out last week's win over Delaware State.

"We've been handling it with caution with Brandon in the hopes that he can play Saturday because we need him to play," Rodriguez said. "We need him in all the games, but in this game we need his physical presence in there."

Michigan (5-2, 1-2) leads the Big Ten in scoring and rushing offense, while 13th-ranked Penn State (7-1, 2-1) tops the league in scoring and rushing defense.

"(Minor's) injury is such that he can just be running and not even be contact and it tweaks a little bit and it’s sore for another two or three days," Rodriguez said. "It’s kind of a day-to-day thing. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that nothing gets tweaked between now and Saturday."

More Wednesday practice notes: • Rodriguez said quarterback Tate Forcier's shoulder injury appears to be a non-factor after taking most of last week off. Forcier played just one series against Delaware State and did not practice Monday or Tuesday.

"He's able to get more zip on his ball and run around a little bit," Rodriguez said. "He hasn’t practiced on a Monday or a full practice on a Tuesday for about three weeks, and I hope that’s going to help with the execution on Saturday."

• Backup cornerback J.T. Floyd should be available Saturday after missing last week's game with the flu. Troy Woolfolk will make his third straight start at right cornerback.

• Rodriguez left open the possibility that suspended cornerback Boubacar Cissoko could play against Penn State.

"It really depends on really the next couple days on whether he plays or not Saturday," Rodriguez said. "He will not start, but whether he dresses or is allowed to travel or has an opportunity to play depends on the next few days."

Cissoko lost his starting job last month and has not played since Sept. 26. He was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
