Facing an undefeated Detroit Country Day team averaging 64 points a game, Huron High School girls basketball coach Steve Vinson showed optimistic applause heading into the locker room with his River Rats trailing 16-10 at halftime.

Harnessing Country Day for two halves, however, was too tall of an order, as the River Rats fell victim to the Yellowjackets' size and speed in a 45-27 home-court loss Thursday.

"If you had asked me, 'If you hold them to 16 points (in the first half), how are you doing?' I would think we're doing a pretty good job, and we might be up at halftime," Vinson said. "But we just couldn't hit shots." (Rest of the story & photo gallery | Boxscore)
