The Detroit Tigers set a record Friday afternoon in their home opener.
Comerica Park drew 45,010 fans - the most ever for a Detroit's first game of the season in the venue's 11 years of existence - and they were rewarded. An Indians error in the fifth inning helped the Tigers break open the game en route to a 5-2 victory, reports Larry Lage of the Associated Press.
Starting the home opener was not necessarily an honor bestowed upon Rick Porcello, according to Chris Iott of mlive.com.
Here's more Tigers links from their home opener:
It was kind of chilly for those fans in the stands, Iott also notes. "There will be a little anti-freeze in them" Tigers manager Jim Leyland told him.
More Tigers in the news: Jeff Passan of Yahoo.com writes Dontrelle Willis is the biggest enigma in major league baseball.

So how did it have more in attendance than any other year? Invite 3 more guests and call it another "record breaker?" Come on.
