Eastern Michigan football team adds 23 in 2010 football recruiting class

                                                            TYLER BENZ

                                                QB (6-3, 213) Maine Township South (Ill.)

Notes: Benz completed 70 percent of his passes for 2,650 yards and 26 touchdowns while also running for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was a first team all-area and all-state selection.

                                                            JEREMY CURRY

                                                LB (6-1, 215) Bolingbrook (Ill.)

Notes: Made 104 tackles, nine sacks and 13 tackles for loss as a senior. Also was a competitive weight lifted and squatted 650 pounds. He was an honorable mention all-area and all-state selection.

                                                           JERAMY CUTLER

                                             P/DL (5-10, 274) Cerritos (Calif.) Junior College
Notes: Was an all-conference punter, averaging 44.7 yards as a sophomore at Cerritos Junior College. On defense, he made 40 tackles, including seven for loss, had five sacks and one forced fumble in addition to recording one interception.

Notes: Was a three-year starter and was selected as an All-Division and All-Greater Western Ohio honoree as a senior.

                                                           DONIEL GAMBRELL
                                              TE (6-6, 248) Cleveland Glenville (Ohio)
Notes: Was enrolled in the winter semester at Eastern Michigan and finished his prep career as one of Northeast Ohio's top linemen.

                                                           KELIP GOODWIN
                                               S (6-1, 190) South Haven
Notes: Was recruited in 2009, but is part of the 2010 recruiting class. Finished senior year with 224 rushing yards and three touchdowns while also catching 29 passes for 460 yards and five touchdowns. As a safety, he made 64 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions.

Notes: Was recruited in 2009, but will be part of 2010 recruiting classes. Had 10 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown in his senior year.

                                                          JESPER GRIMES
                                                 DT (6-2, 310) Fort Scott (Kan.) Junior College
Notes: Was a third-team all-state selection as a senior and made 45 tackles, including 22 for losses, 11 sacks and forced four fumbles in his senior year in Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Notes: Was a Nebraska All A District 4 player and an All-Metro Conference selection as a senior.

                                                          DESDAN HESTER
                                                  LB (6-2, 221) Atlanta McNair (Ga.)
Notes: Had 93 tackles, including six for loss, two sacks and three forced fumbles as a senior. He was named ESPN.com's No. 2 linebacker in Georgia and was ranked as the country's No. 60 inside linebacker.

Notes: Was an all-area selection by the Flint Journal.

                                                         DARIUS MOFFETT
                                                  LB (6-3, 225) Chicago Hubbard (Ill.)
Notes: Was recruited in 2009, but will be part of the 2010 recruiting class. Was ranked as the state of Illinois 16th top player and recorded 146 tackles with 10 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions as a senior. Was the Chicago Public School's League defensive player of the year in 2008.

Notes: Was an All-Area selection as a senior and a two-time Southwest Suburban All-Conference honoree.

                                                          MARCUS PENN
                                                    S (6-0, 194) Columbus Whetstone (Ohio)
Notes: Was a four-year starter and offensive most valuable player as a senior. He rushed for 1,570 yards and 18 touchdowns and made 94 tackles and four sacks on defense.

                                                         KENDRICK REYNOLDS
                                                    WR (5-10, 178) College of the Sequoias (Calif.)
Notes: Rushed for 314 yards on 54 attempts and caught 39 passes for 405 yards while also averaging 16.1 yards per effort on kick returns.

                                                            DONALD SCOTT
                                                    WR (6-0, 179) Apopka (Fla.)
Notes: Caught 12 passes for 300 yards and nine touchdowns in a run-oriented offense. Was selected as No. 48 on The Orlando Sentinel's Central Florida Top 100 list. He also had seven rushing attempts for 67 yards and three touchdowns. He was an USA Youth Track and Field All-American and was a USA Youth triple jump champion as well as a finalist in the 400 meter dash.

                                                         LATERRIUS THOMAS
                                                     S (6-1, 206) Transfer from Louisville
Notes: Will have one year of eligibility remaining after transferring from Louisville. As a high school senior in New Smryna, Fla., he was a Florida 4-A All-State selection and was ranked as the state's No. 17 player. Started as a true freshman at Louisville.

                                                        MALCOLM THOMAS
                                                     S (6-0, 175) McColl Marlboro (S.C.)
Notes: Intercepted two passes and intercepted one for a touchdown as a senior. On offense, he rushed for 295 yards and three touchdowns while also catching four passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

                                                        COLIN WEINGRAD
                                                     LB (6-0, 230) The Hun School (N.J.)
Notes: Recorded 82 tackles and had five sacks and three forced fumbles, two interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries last season. 

                                                        JABAR WESTERMAN
                                       DL (6-2, 292) Dodge (Kan.) Community College
Notes: Ranked fifth in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with 10 tackles for loss.

                                                     KEVIN WHEELER
                                  WR (6-0, 179) Hylton-Hargrave Military Academy
Notes: Has already enrolled at Eastern Michigan. Caught 23 passes for 309 yards and seven touchdowns.

                                                  WILLIE 'MAX' WILLIAMS
                                         CB (6-0, 195) Dorsey-Glendale College (Calif.)
Notes: Recorded 36 tackles, including one for loss and had two interceptions while also recording a fumble recovery. Averaged 21.6 yards per effort on kickoff returns.

                                                        JOSH WOODS
                                          OL (6-5, 299) Cocoa (Fla.)
Notes: Was a three-year starter and helped his team to back-to-back state championships in 2008 and 2009. Was an all-district, all-area and all-conference selection.
