Eastern Michigan baseball loses in extra innings and more Tuesday results

Cleveland State scored on an Eastern Michigan throwing error in the top of the 10th inning and picked up a 2-1 non-conference baseball win at Oestrike Stadium on Tuesday.

Tom Carter led off the inning with a single and stole second base. He scored when Eastern Michigan third baseman Ben Magsig’s throwing error on an ensuing sacrifice bunt attempt.

Ken Battiston, who drove in Eastern’s only run in the third inning, hit a one-out double in the bottom of the 10th inning, but Cleveland State (6-14) winning pitcher Brandon Cooper struck out Brent Ohrman and Daniel Rusell to end the game.

Magsig went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Eagles (15-9), who host Michigan at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

SOFTBALL Eastern Michigan 8-15, Detroit 0-7: Junior outfielder McKenna Russ went 9-for-9 with four home runs and eight RBIs in the Eagles' doubleheader sweep of the Titans in Detroit. Eastern (13-5) had a total of 30 hits in the two eight-run wins. (Details)

WOMEN’S GOLF UALR Women’s Golf Classic: Eastern Michigan sophomore Sarah Johnson finished in 11th place and the Eagles were fourth overall at the 19-team event in Hot Springs, Ark. Johnson’s three-round score of 225 (70-79-76) was the second-lowest 54-hole total of her career and led to her third straight top 15 finish. (Details)
