Eastern Michigan defeats Division II Ferris State in final pre-MAC game
The Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team defeated Ferris State 76-60 at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti on Tuesday night in front of an announced crowd of 485.
Brandon Bowdry registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Derek Thompson led the Eagles (3-10) with 19 points. Bulldogs senior guard Darien Gay led all scorers with 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
The Bulldogs - who compete in the Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference - took the first lead of the game off of a Gay jumper and held it for much of the first half.
Thompson tied the game 29-29, then put the Eagles ahead for the first time, 32-29, on back-to-back 3-pointers at the 3:45 mark of the first half. It was the only lead change of the game.
Eastern led 38-32 at the half.
Eastern shot 29-of-58 (50 percent) from the field to Ferris’ 22-of-54 (40.7 percent). Eastern was 10 of 15 from the free-throw line while Ferris (8-5) was 7 of 14.
