Eastern Michigan football coach Ron English optimistic, full of advice on a live chat

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Eastern Michigan football coach Ron English participated in a live chat for an hour with the Detroit Free Press on Monday, and he appeared upbeat. Three moments from the chat:

No. 1: What is your plan to getting back to competing with the likes of Central and Western? Ron English: Recruiting. Great players make great coaches and we have to continue to evaluate well and take MAC championship level players here.

No. 2: What do you say to people who feel you are not actively recruiting the state of Michigan? Ron English: We offered 10 players from in-state and only got 1 so that was dissappointing. Still we will continue to build relationships in our home state and the more we prove to the kids that we are committed to winning, and the more that we win, the more success we will have.

No. 3: Coach, I have a job interview tomorrow. Please give me a pep talk. Ron English: Know this there are two and only two things you need to do tomorrow. Number one, you must be prepared to answer the questions the way that you believe they should be answered-not the way that you think they want you to answer and answer them with conviction. Two BE YOURSELF!

How about if coach English doesn't pull back verbal commitments he gives high school kids and then give the scholarships to JC players. That is why no kids will commit to EMU they don't want to get the rug pulled out from under them, with that kind of recruiting EMU will continue to be bottom of the MAC.

Please! Ron English couldn't design a defense to stop Appalachian State!

It would have been nice to see what coach English could have done at Michigan. There would have been far fewer people leaving and possibly our bowl streak still alive and growing. Might have still been respected!
