Eastern Michigan University athletics to sponsor Boys and Girls Club event

By Jeff Arnold

The Eastern Michigan University athletics department will be a presenting sponsor of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan Huron Valley Club of Ypsilanti "Score for Kids Jamboree" next month.

Members of the school's men's and women's basketball teams will offer basketball tips while encouraging kids to participate in various events.

The event - which will be held Aug. 1 at the Huron Valley Club - will include a day-long series of basketball tournaments for club members, face painting, soccer, food and music. The event gives sponsors the chance to meet with club kids, tour the club's facilities and learn about youth development programs that are offered to 1,180 kids each year.

"A university is only as strong as its local community and we are honored to be able to give back to the Ypsilanti area by supporting the Score for Kids Jamboree," Eastern Michigan athletic director Derrick Gragg said in a statement issued by the school. "I know (Eastern Michigan athletes') presence will have a positive impact on them as well as on the children that are participating."

There are five sponsorship levels for the event ranging from $125 to $1,000. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Huron Valley Club's Boys and Girls club efforts. For more information on the event, contact club director Frank Rigger at 734-481-0266 or by email at frigger@bgcsm.com
