Eastern Michigan women's basketball opens MAC play with road win; Concordia men edge Madonna
The one-two punch of Tavelyn James and Cassie Schrock helped the Eastern Michigan women's basketball team start its Mid-American Conference season with a road victory.
James scored a game-high 26 points, including six 3-pointers, and Schrock added 24 points with a perfect 12-for-12 performance at the free-throw line in a 79-63 win over Northern Illinois on Wednesday in DeKalb, Ill.
The Eagles (10-5, 1-0), who have won their last five games, built a 13-point lead in the first half and never looked back.
EMU's Paige Redditt added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
MEN'S BASKETBALL Concordia 79, Madonna 77: Marius Williams and Austin Cook scored 16 points each, helping Concordia edge Madonna for a home win. Williams, a Belleville High School graduate, hit three free throws down the stretch to help the Cardinals seal the win.
