Eastern Michigan women's basketball team advances to MAC tournament title game

An upset of the Mid-American Conference regular season champion has moved the Eastern Michigan women's basketball team to Sunday's MAC tournament title game.

Cassie Schrock scored 20 points for the Eagles in their 61-55 semifinal win over Toledo at Quicken Loan Arena in Cleveland.

Eastern (22-11) led from the opening tipoff, jumping ahead by as much as 13 points with 2:45 to play in the first half. Toledo (23-8), which had beaten the Eagles twice during the regular season, got within three points, 50-47, with 5:32 left in the game.

After being held silent for most of the game, Eastern leading scorer Tavelyn James found her way open for back-to-back scores to extending the lead back to seven with 4:30 to play.

Eastern's Paige Redditt was named player of the game after recording her fourth double-double of the season. She scored 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Sunday's championship game appearance against Bowling Green will be the Eagles' first since 2003-04. The Falcons (27-4) beat Central Michigan, 61-55, in Friday's other semifinal.

It will be Bowling Green's third straight trip to the MAC title game and its seventh in eight years.
