Eastern Michigan's Tavelyn James named MAC West women's basketball Player of the Week
Eastern Michigan senior guard Tavelyn James' 42-point performance in a win over Northeastern earned her the Mid-American Conference women's basketball West Division Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.
James, who has won the award three times in career, broke her own single-game school scoring record in the game and became the first player in MAC history to score 40 or more points in the first game of the season.
James made 16-of-24 shots (66.7 percent) from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the 3-point arc, and recorded six steals in Eastern Michigan's 83-53 win last Friday.
