Eso Akunne started at Michigan paying his own way. Now, though, he won't have to do that for at least a year.

Michigan basketball coach John Beilein awarded Akunne, a former standout guard for Gabriel Richard, a one-year scholarship.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Akunne averaged 17.0 points, 10.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists for Richard in his senior season.
