Former University of Michigan basketball captain David Merritt's company hits the street

By Jeff Arnold

David Merritt is all about the community.

Since the former Michigan basketball captain launched his apparel company, ">I Miss You, Inc., being a good actor within his surroundings has been a staple of his mission.

On Saturday, his work begins.

Merritt and members of his team will spend Saturday morning working with Community Action Network - a non-profit organization that runs four community centers in Ann Arbor and offers services to low-income communities.

Together, along with volunteers that are still being sought, Merritt will help with neighborhood clean-up, painting and administrative services with CAN. Work projects will be done between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., allowing volunteers the chance to spend time working in their community before Michigan and Notre Dame face off at 3:30 p.m. at Michigan Stadium.

Merritt said Friday that some may believe that promising his company would complete community service projects was a ploy to promote his brand. But for Merritt, who rewards volunteer work with discounts on his company's unique clothing line, taking a positive first step in Ann Arbor is vital.

"It's our mission, it's our philosophy and you're appreciated when you give back," said Merritt, the company's founder and chief operating officer. "So we knew we wanted to come out swinging."

To volunteer, contact Merritt's company at imu@imutheinsideout.com prior to Saturday. Workers will meet up at CAN''s Green Baxter Court Community Center, which is located at 1737 Green Road in Ann Arbor.
