Four Wolverines earn All-America honors at swimming championships

COLUMBUS, OH -- Michigan fershman swimmer Hassaan Abdel Khalik is from Canade. His senior teammate, Andre Schultz, made his way to Ann Arbor by way of Brazil.

While Schultz and Khlik may not be naturalized Americans, after day one of the NCAA men's swimming and diving championships, they are All-Americans.

Despite swimming with a broken hand, Khalik finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4-minutes 55.68 seconds. Michigan's Dan Medwed took sixth in the event with a time of 4:18.52.

The Wolverines doubled-dipped again in the 200 individual medley with Tyler Clary and Schultz finished fifth (1:43.88) and sixth (1:43.94), respectively. Texas' Austin Surhoff won the event with a time of 1:42.95, less than second ahead of Clary and Schultz.

Michigan sits in seveth place with 77 points. California is in first with 139. Day two of the championships will resume at noon on Saturday. (MGoBlue.com story)
