Friday night football primer

By Rich Rezler

As our high school sports staff prepares to head out into the rain to report on the first Friday night high school football games of the season, here's a quick preview of what's coming at AnnArbor.com this weekend and a few Washtenaw County football-related links from various Internet sources:

AnnArbor.com will have reporters at every Washtenaw County home game tonight (Ypsilanti at Milan, Clinton at Manchester, Mason at Lincoln and Garden City at Dexter) and we will be updating scores by quarter on MLive. Click the corresponding link above to follow along, and be sure to check back later tonight for complete stories and photographs.

We'll also have a roundup of other area football games -- and all other sports -- updated live as we receive reports. So, check back often.

There's still time (until 7 p.m. tonight) to participate in our Week 1 predictions contest. If our readers' cumulative picks are better than staff prognosticator Rich Rezler's, he's promised to donate $100 to Food Gatherers.

BIG DAY PREP SHOWDOWN The AnnArbor.com staff will also be out in full force at Saturday's Big Day Prep Showdown, which features a number of county teams opening their season at Eastern Michigan's Rynearson Stadium.

Expect stories, photos and video reports. We'll also host a live chat from Rynearson starting at 2 p.m. (when Saline kicks off against Belleville) and ends after the Pioneer-Inkster game ends around 10 p.m. In between, there's a 5 p.m. contest between Chelsea and Huron. Check back in the morning for a link to that live chat, which will be hosted by staff writers James Briggs and Rich Rezler..

BDPS ELSEWHERE ON THE WEB The fifth annual Big Day Prep Showdown started with three games today at Rynearson. If you're interested in updates, you can find them on Twitter.

The Detroit Metro Sports Commission, organizers of the BDPS, have gone social media crazy this year. Check out their YouTube channel for 80 different video clips -- including many from Washtenaw County players and coaches.

LOCAL PLAYERS/TEAMS GET STATE-WIDE RECOGNITION Saline is No. 12, Chelsea No. 16 and Pioneer No. 20 in Mick McCabe's ranking of the state's top 25 teams in the Detroit Free Press.

Tom Markowski of the Detroit News lists Saline at No. 7 in his top 10.

In his top 25 players list, McCabe puts Chelsea's Nick Hill at No. 4, Huron's Jeremy Jackson at No. 7, Pioneer's Ricardo Miller at No. 9 and Saline's Joe Boisture at No. 11.
