Gun play doesn’t pay, kids. And if you’re Gilbert Arenas or Javaris Crittenton, it can be really costly.

Arenas and Crittenton were suspended for the remainder of the NBA season Wednesday for brandishing weapons during a locker-room incident Dec. 21.

The punishment comes without pay, which means Arenas, who already was on indefinite suspension, will forfeit about $7.4 million, while Crittenton, who has not played this year because of an ankle injury, will lose more than $510,000.

The Wizards also are contemplating trying to void the remaining four seasons of Arenas’ $111 million contract, about $80 million.

If that happens, maybe the hapless Pistons can sign Arenas. Detroit missed its final eight shots Wednesday in a 99-93 loss to the Grizzlies to fall to 15-29 on the season.

At least the Pistons can take solace in the fact president Joe Dumars is committed to rebuilding the team. Apparently, he was a candidate to run for governor.
