Eastern Michigan golfer Sarah Johnson and Sarah Hoffman both survived the first-round of match play Wednesday in the Michigan Women's Amateur.

Johnson, the No. 1 seed after earning medalist honors Tuesday, defeated Christina Cibrario of Milford, 5 and 4. Hoffman needed 21 holes to beat Amy Ruthenberg of East Lansing.

With the field down to 16 golfers, two rounds of match play are scheduled for Thursday at Prestwick Village Golf Course in Hartland.
