Former EMU, Saline golfer Martin Jeppesen finishes sixth at Michigan Open
Ann Arbor's Martin Jeppesen, a former Eastern Michigan and Saline High School golfer, finished seventh at the 95th annual Michigan Open, leading all local participants at the event.
Berritt Kelpin, a 22-year-old Kalamazoo native, finished Thursday's fourth and final round at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Mich., with a 4-under-par 68 to record a 23-under-par 265 tournament total. The recent University of Iowa graduate, playing in his first professional event, beat runner-up Jeff Cuzzort (Grosse Ile) by eight strokes to earn an $8,000 first-place check and the James D. Standish Jr. Trophy.
Jeppesen finished with a 12-under 276 and earned $1,600.
Other players with Washtenaw County ties in the top 20 include former Michigan golfer Brian Ottenweller (ninth, 278), Polo Fields Golf and Country Club pro John Seltzer (tied for 12th, 282) and former Michigan golfer Matt Thompson (tied for 16th, 285).
