Two Ann Arbor teens among top 25 at national junior golf tournament

Ann Arbor residents Davis Ransdell and Alex Wunderlich finished among the top 25 at the the Big “I” National Championship at Reunion Golf & Country Club in Madison, Miss.

Ransdell, a recent Pioneer High School graduate, finished in a five-way tie for 14th place after Thursday's fourth and final round. Ransdell finished with a 7-over-par 295 while Wunderlich, a Huron grad, finished tied for 23rd with a 297.

J.T. Poston of Hickory, N.C., won the event with a 6-under 282.

The Big “I” National Championship is one of the longest running junior golf events in the country. It included top junior golfers from 36 states who advanced from qualifying tournaments held around the nation.

Ransdell started the tournament strong, carding a 1-under 71 in Monday's first round. He followed that with back-to-back 74s before shooting a 76 on Thursday.

Wunderlich had his best round of the tournament on Thursday, rebounding from a 78 on Wednesday to shoot a 71.

The Ann Arbor duo were the highest-placing qualifiers from Michigan.
