Wrestling Regionals: 19 from Washtenaw County punch ticket to the state finals
Nineteen Washtenaw County high school wrestlers booked trips to The Palace of Auburn Hills at individual regional tournaments held on Saturday.
The most local qualifiers came out of the Division 2 regional at Dexter, where a total of 10 wrestlers from Chelsea, Milan, Ypsilanti and Dexter punched their ticket to the March 4-6 state finals.
Manchester, the No. 3-ranked team in Division 4, had seven qualifiers by itself.
Here’s a look at each of the state regionals that included Washtenaw County teams:
Division 1 at Saline | Full Results Saline senior Nick Pataro was the only local competitor to emerge, earning his first state final bid in his third regional tournament. He finished fourth at 135 pounds.
Both of his Hornet teammates at the regional - 145-pounder Sam Hepler and 152-pounder Brett Clink - lost in the blood round.
Huron’s Adam London (140) and Lincoln’s Eddie Nuttall (130) were eliminated after losing their first two matches of the day.
Division 1 at Howell | Full Results Pioneer senior heavyweight Chris Biggs will also compete at the state finals for the first time. He reached the championship match at 285 pounds before losing to Tyler Bedgood of Waterford Kettering.
Will Jackson (135) and Tommy Brosnahan (140) of Pioneer each reached the blood round before being eliminated. Alex Goldfarb (112), Justin Bose (160) and George Petropoulos (215) lost their first two matches.

Three county earned regional titles, including Chelsea’s 189-pounder Travis Ostrowski, his teammate Dakota Cooley at 140 pounds and Milan’s Sean Domas at 215.
Milan’s other state qualifiers were Cody O’Keefe (third at 135 pounds), Tim Sims (second, 145), R.J. Gaskill, (fourth, 160) and Matt Schultz (third, 189).
Ypsilanti qualified two in Alex Lillie (third, 119) and Greg Cheatham (fourth, 171). Dan Flowers (third, 125) was Dexter’s lone qualifier.
Division 3 at Williamston | Full Results Brandon Britcher and Anthony Johnson, the first regional qualifiers from Willow Run since 2002, did not advance. Britcher lost in the blood round at 189 pounds while Johnson lost twice at heavyweight.
Division 4 at Addison Seven of 10 Manchester wrestlers moved on to the state finals, led by regional champions Ryan Abrigo (112), Austin Deacons (119) and Jimmy Hamilton (145).
Nate Fischer (103), Cameron LaDouceur (130), Johnny Woollams (140) and Dylan Neff (285) all qualified for states by finishing fourth.
“Getting seven of 10 through, that was a good day,” Manchester coach Steve Vlcek said. “And with only one senior (Hamilton) in that group, that’s a good thing for our future.”
It was Abrigo’s second regional title while Hamilton, now a four-time state finalists, won his first.
