2010 All-Washtenaw County Boys Swimming Team

Boys swimming is the last in AnnArbor.com's series of six All-Washtenaw County teams from the winter sports season.

DREAM TEAM

David Boland (fr.), Saline: Division 1 state champion in the 200 individual medley (1:53.8) and 100 butterfly (:51.29), leading the Hornets to a state team title. Both races were won in automatic All-American times. Boland won the same events at the MISCA meet and at the SEC Red championships.

Grant Cole (sr.), Pioneer: Won a Division 1 state title in the 50 freestyle (:21.27) and was fourth in the 100 freestyle (:47.22). His 50 freestyle time earned All-American consideration. Finished second in the 50 free at the MISCA meet. Was first in the 50 free and second in the 100 free at the SEC Red championships.

Josh Ehrman (fr.), Saline: Earned All-American consideration with his fifth-place finish in the 200 IM (1:55.8) at the D1 state finals and also finished 15th in the 100 backstroke (:55.11). Finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the same events at the MISCA meet. Took second in the 200 IM and third in the backstroke at the SEC Red championships.

Jake Engelmeier (sr.), Saline: Swam to a pair of third-place finishes, in the 200 freestyle (1:41.61) and 100 butterfly (:51.79), at the Division 1 state finals. His 200 free time earned All-American consideration. Was second in the 200 free at the SEC Red championships and ninth at the MISCA meet.

James Fisher (so.), Saline: Finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (:51.85) and 11th in the 200 freestyle at the Division 1 state finals. Tied for fifth in the butterfly at the MISCA meet. Also had a pair of top-3 finishes at the SEC Red finals in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Mike Fisher (jr.), Saline: Swam to a pair of All-State finishes at the Division 1 state finals, including fourth-place in the 100 breaststroke (:58.68) and seventh in the 200 IM (1:56.88). The breaststroke time earned All-America consideration. Fifth in the breaststroke at the MISCA meet. Won the breaststroke at the SEC Red finals and was third in the IM.

Brad Frost (jr.), Saline: Finished fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:44.98) and 15th in the 100 freestyle at the Division 1 state finals. Was fifth in the 100 backstroke and sixth in the 100 free at the SEC Red championships.

Kyle Gunderson (sr.), Pioneer: Reached the championship heat of both the butterfly and backstroke at the Division 1 state finals, finishing eighth in each. Was fourth in the backstroke and fifth in the butterfly at the MISCA meet and second in both events at the SEC Red finals.

Tyler Hampton (jr.), Pioneer: The Pioneer freestyler was eighth in the 100 (:48.17) and 14th in the 200 (1:45.97) at the Division 1 state finals. He was fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200 at the SEC Red finals.

Andy Jensen (so.), Saline: Picked up a pair of All-State finishes at the Division 1 finals by placing third in the 500 freestyle (4:41.58) and eighth in the 200 IM (1:58.26). Jensen was third at the SEC Red finals in the 500 free and followed that up with an eighth-place finish in the same event at the MISCA meet.

Kevin Naud (sr.), Pioneer: Finished seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:45.02) and 15th in the 100 butterfly at the Division 1 state finals. Was third in the 200 free and fifth in the butterfly at the SEC Red championships and turned in a tenth-place finish in the butterfly at the MISCA meet.

Seiji Osawa (so.), Pioneer: Won the 500 freestyle at the SEC Red championships and followed that with a Division 1 state title (4:38.24). Also finished fourth in the state in the 200 IM (1:55.65) with D1 finals time earning All-America consideration. Was fourth in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 free at the MISCA meet.

Dylan Shearer (jr.), Milan: (not pictured) Was the Division 3 state champion in the 200 breaststroke (1:00.59) and anchored all three Big Red relays at the state finals, including the first-place 200 medley team. Won the breaststroke title in the Huron League and was 11th at the MISCA meet.

Stephen Sobczak (jr.), Dexter: Finished second in the 100 freestyle (:45.74) and the 100 backstroke (:51.24) at the Division 2 state finals, both in automatic All-America times. Won the backstroke and was third in the 200 freestyle at the MISCA meet and claimed SEC White titles in the backstroke and 200 freestyle.

Adam Whitener (fr.), Saline: Finished second in the 100 freestyle (:46.21) and 200 freestyle (1:40.6) after becoming the only two-time individual SEC Red champion by winning the same events. Was second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free at the MISCA meet.

DIVER Nick Nemetz (jr.), Pioneer: The defending Division 1 state champion returned to the finals and finished third with a score of 440.75. He also won the SEC Red championship.

RELAY Saline’s 200 freestyle: The team of Jake Engelmeier, Brad Frost, Seth Waits and Adam Whitener won a Division 1 state title in an automatic All-America time of 1:26.92.

COACH Todd Brunty, Saline: Months after leading the Hornets’ girls team to their first state championship, Brunty once again leapt into the pool after the boys took home their first Division 1 crown.
