Six different players scored goals for Pioneer High School in its 12-5 boys lacrosse victory over Detroit Country Day on Wednesday in Ann Arbor.

"The real story of the game was it was by far our most productive offensive game of the year," said Pioneer coach Darren Millman, whose team sealed the win with four goals to Country Day's one in the fourth quarter.

"We took care of the ball and didn't turn it over," Millman continued. "This helped sustain prolonged possession and wear the defense down. We clearly had the fresher legs in the second half, and especially in the fourth quarter."

Kevin Grupe led the Pioneers (5-2) with a team-high three goals. Christian Bouchard, Justin Bose, Steven Smitka and Aidan Barrer netted two goals apiece. Dylan Swanson added one goal to round out Pioneer's scoring.

"We have a lot of guys on the team who have the ability to score," noted Millman. "With the exception of one, all of our primary offensive weapons scored tonight. That is really encouraging. We are going to be successful if we have games like that."

Helming Pioneer's defense, meanwhile, were Nick Mrjoian, Max Zwolin and Dan Cerovecic. In the net, Mike Jones finished with eight saves. (Boxscore)

MORE BOYS LACROSSE Huron 13, Plymouth Salem 5: Henry Upton scored six goals in the River Rats' home win over the Rocks. "We did a great job passing tonight and defensively we're starting to get it, our slides are getting better," said Huron (4-2) coach Joe Koengeter, whose team exploded for five first-quarter goals. Sandy Welch added four goals to Huron's output. Sharing time in the net, Lars Urbaniak and Joe Fingerle had six and three saves, respectively. (Boxscore)

Dexter 15, Temperance Bedford 2: Andrew Erber scored seven goals, anchoring the Dreadnaughts lopsided home win over the Kicking Mules. Additionally, Erber won 19 of 21 faceoffs. "He's a really fundamentally solid, old-fashioned midfielder. He doesn't come off the field for us. He's a throwback," said Dexter (4-4) coach Brian Callanan, whose team held Bedford scoreless in the second half. "We had majority of the possession. And in the second quarter the offense started getting a little more precise and efficient," added Callanan. Kevin Mors chipped in three goals and five assists for the Dreads. (Boxscore)

GIRLS LACROSSE Pioneer 12, Detroit Country Day 9: Sophia Hart stepped in for an injured Emma Hamstra and responded with a 17-save performance for the Pioneers (4-2). "There was about a four minute period in the second half where she turned away nine consecutive shots," said Pioneer coach Zach Maghes. "She just kept turning the ball away, it was awesome." Stephanie Lang had six assists, Grace Wilson scored three goals and four other Pioneers had a pair of goals. (Boxscore)
