By Kaleb Roedel

The Central Academy and Washtenaw Christian Academy boys basketball teams experienced opposite ends of the victory spectrum in Class D semifinals Wednesday.

Behind Sami Shalabi’s double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds), Central Academy cruised to a 71-23 rout of Rudolf Steiner while tournament host Washtenaw Christian fought tooth-and-nail with Eastern Washtenaw Multicultural Academy before squeezing out a 65-61 win.

Bob Clements and Kevin Stout scored 19 points apiece for the Wildcats.

Central Academy and Washtenaw Christian will play for the third time this year when they match up in the district championship game at 7 p.m. Friday. Central Academy has handily defeated the Wildcats twice this season, 64-50 and 63-43.
