Huron girls open season with 30-point win and more Friday night girls basketball results

Bianca Williams led all scorers with 12 points and Ariel Bethea scored 11 as the Huron River Rats opened their season with a convincing 55-24 win over Salem Friday night.

"Williams is a senior guard, one of our most consistent - something we're expecting to see game in and game out for us," head coach Steve Vinson said. "We played really good defense, we forced 25 turnovers throughout the game. I was really proud of our defensive effort to hold them to only 24 points."

Ann Arbor Skyline took a 45-2 halftime lead, and cruised to its second victory of the season.

Janae Sims and Mea Morris each scored 15 points to lead Skyline. Troy Bowens scored 12 points.

"Our defense was great in the first quarter, and that's what gave us the big lead," Skyline coach Keith Wade said. "We like to use our speed to our advantage, and our defensive pressure allowed us to get easy baskets in transition."

Lincoln 64, Willow Run 15

Ypsilanti Lincoln had two scorers in double digits: Dominique Foley scored 19 points and Katelyn Morris scored 12. Jaslynn Rollins had 11 rebounds.

Ypsilanti Willow Run’s Chamaria Canada scored six points.

Manchester 64, Napolean 34

The Manchester Flying Dutch presented a problem Friday night to which the Napoleon Pirates had no answer.

The problem the Dutch presented was McKenna Erkfritz.

The six foot, one inch senior was unstoppable in the paint Friday night, as Manchester defeated Napoleon 64-34 on the road in the Cascades Conference season opener.

Erkfritz accounted for 37 of those points, hitting 14-of-22 field goals.

Greenhills 43, Newport Lutheran South 37

Ann Arbor Greenhills used a 10-2 run in the first quarter to establish the lead, but fell behind 17-16 at halftime.

Greenhills would finish the game on a 27-20 run, on its way to its first victory of the season. Jackie Oestreich led Greenhills (1-2), scoring 22 points.

Whitmore Lake 43, Petersburg Summerfield 34

Abby Salata and Melissa Dreffs totaled 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Whitmore Lake in the league win.

Petersburg Summerfield got a quick lead, going up 8-0 in the first quarter, but the Trojans defense made adjustments to slow Summerfield's offense.

Danny Galagher led Summerfield with 21 points.

Southgate Anderson 63, Arbor Prep 38

Southgate Anderson used a 24-4 run in the second quarter to take control of the game on its way to the victory.

Amaka Chikwe led Ypsilanti Arbor Prep, scoring 10 points. Zakiya Wells and Nastassja Chambers each scored nine points.

"They imposed their will on us physically in the second quarter," Ypsilanti Arbor Prep coach Rod Wells said. "We had a hard time scoring against their size, but it was a good test for us."
