As the high school football season gets set to kick off, we at AnnArbor.com and our partners at the MLive Media Group are preparing to cover it like never before.

We’re getting rid of any guesswork about our football night plans. You readers will always know ahead of time where we are going to be on Friday nights. That's because you'll be sending us there.

Whichever game in the AnnArbor.com coverage area wins that week's AnnArbor.com regional poll will be the spotlight of AnnArbor.com's "Game of the Week" and be the focus of our game-night coverage.

And when we say Game of the Week, we mean that we’re going to treat the poll winner like the Game of the Season -- every week.

This will happen in 10 stadiums across Michigan for every MLive Media Group regional coverage area. The statewide "Game of the Week" polls at MLive.com will remain, but with 10 new regional polls whose results will pack a big punch.

We'll write a preview about the winning game and the vote, and every MLive.com Game of the Week will be staffed with two reporters to provide a variety of stories, photos and stats. At every game we'll also be conducting live chats -- which will provide not only up-to-the-minute reports from our top game, but information on other games in the area.

Upgrades in our phone apps will let you join those chats from field this fall, and we hope you'll share on-the-spot information from other games as well as your comments about the Game of the Week.

There may be rare instances when we might overrule the vote if there are technical or facility challenges, or we sense a scam of some sort.

But we plan to follow the vote -- the rules allow you to vote once a day. And our answer to schools not satisfied with the results always will be to encourage them to vote for their team on our next poll. It is an election year, after all.

In the AnnArbor.com coverage area, the voting begins today with these opening-week games (all played at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24):

  • Warren De La Salle at Ann Arbor Pioneer
  • Jackson Lumen Christi at Chelsea
  • Ypsilanti at Milan
  • Ann Arbor Skyline at Hartland

Our weekly football coverage also will include rankings, predictions, previews of other games and more. And Ann Arbor.com's MLive.com regional page will continue to have coverage of all the other fall sports every night.

We have new phone numbers for reporting results: coaches can call 877-270-9533 or fax to 877-271-4518. Information can also be emailed to prepsports@mlive.com.

Enough of that. Get ready to enjoy some football. Opening night is just 17 days away.

And don't forget to vote!
