Pioneer High School senior running back Drake Johnson rushed 33 times for 171 yards and two scores and caught four passes for 42 yards, but it wasn't enough as Warren DeLaSalle defeated the Pioneers 48-23.

Pioneer shot itself in the foot in that quarter, giving up a safety and a fumble return for a touchdown. First year-coach Paul Test said turnovers plagued his team all night.

"You can't beat good team when you turn the ball over," Test said. "After tonight you have to have a short memory, and forget about it."

DeLaSalle junior quarterback Shane Morris, a University of Michigan commit, was an efficient 14 of 18 passing for 224 yards and a touchdown. Six different players scored touchdowns for DeLaSalle.

Pioneer quarterback Andy Creal was 17 of 24 for 212 yards a touchdown and two interceptions.

The road doesn't get much easier for the Pioneers, who take on perennial state power Birmingham Brother Rice on the road next Friday.

"They'll be real physical, we have to play smarter," Test said. "We have to have better ball security and hold on to the ball more."

Deprez then connected with Jankowski for a score on the Rocks’ first play of overtime and Alex Kenrick’s PAT won the game.

Hassan put Huron on the scoreboard first with a 49-yard pass to Blaise Stearns and Parish Jacobs gave the River Rats a 14-7 third-quarter lead with a 62-yard touchdown run.

    LINCOLN 27, BELLEVILLE 0

The Railsplitters won their season opener for just the second time in 13 years and recorded their first shutout since a 35-0 win over Dexter in 2001.

"I'm very happy about the shutout, we had great contributions from some of our seniors," said Lincoln coach Chris Westfall, whose team allowed an average of 28 points last season while going 0-9. "Tanner Brewer and DeJuan Hampton did some great things for us up front and linebacker Christian Thomas, all seniors."

Quarterback T.J. O'Bryan threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Rare Williams in the first quarter and scored on a 4-yard run to give the Railsplitters a 13-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Lincoln scored on a 25-yard interception return by Johntae Pittman and a 22-yard run by Will Russell to snap a 14-game losing streak that dated back to the middle of the 2009 season.

"The credit goes to T.J. O'Bryan, who threw 19 interceptions last season,"Westfall said. "He's really had a transformation. He was very efficient tonight, ran for some first downs and did a good job of managing the offense."

The Hornets trailed 37-0 before getting on the board with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Reese Dils to Gage Hammond late in the third quarter. The duo would hook up again for a 46-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Dils completed 10 of 28 passes for 194 yards and was intercepted twice. Brent Zdebski led Western with 119 rushing yards and a touchdown.

It's only the second time since 1972 (Novi, 52-13) that an opponent has scored more than 50 points against Saline. The other was Canton's 56-36 win in a 2006 playoff game.

Dreadnaughts senior quarterback Mike Mioduszewski started his senior season on a high note, throwing three touchdown passes and running for another.

"It was a good first game, they battled back and our kids reached deep and took care of business," said first-year coach Brian Baird. "We rushed for 199 yards with three different running backs and our quarterback, we did a good job of controlling the game late."

Mioduszewski ran for 106 of those yards and was 11 of 20 passing for 184 yards, with two of his touchdowns to Jacob VanHoof who finished with four catches for 124 yards.

"Mike did about everything you could ask of him," Baird said.

Dexter took a 21-0 lead before Fowlerville scored a pair of touchdowns late in the third quarter to pull within one score.

"The defense played very inspired and attacked pretty hard," Baird said. "There was a letdown in the third when they scored two quick touchdowns, but they buckled down and finished strong."

Deshawn Gohl rushed for 80 yards and two scores and Johnny Brown had three catches for 65 yards and two more touchdowns, but a kickoff return in the final seconds for Detroit PEC proved to be the difference in the Flyers' 38-33 home loss.

Willow Run quarterback Kareem Lovelace connected with Brown to give Willow Run the lead with just 28 seconds remaining in the game, but the Panthers picked up and took an attempted squib kick to the house. It was the second kick return for a score for Detroit PEC in the game.

"Special teams really killed us," said Flyers coach Rufus Pipkins. "I feel so bad for the kids, they played so hard."

Lovelace finished 4 of 8 passing for 130 yards and two scores.

Stockbridge’s rushing trio of Jacob Hause, Jacob Grammer and Josh Ensign combined for more than 300 yards on the ground. Stockbridge outgained Whitmore Lake 301-74 in rushing.

I like the coverage of local teams. I do not like going too Mlive for box scores. Can't AA.com post boxscores? I would also like to see links for each teams schedules. That would be great.

The Worm Turns... Skyline has the W and the other AA teams have the L. Should be a good battle when the teams meet this year.
