Chelsea and Dexter girls basketball teams share SEC White title, Skyline boys win at buzzer and more Friday results
The Chelsea and Dexter high school girls basketball teams each won their Friday night games to split the Southeastern Conference White Division championship.
Chelsea overcame 23 points from Lincoln's Arielle Cargor to beat the Railsplitters 53-38, while Dexter held Adrian to four points in the first and third quarters, using those stanzas to build a strong lead en route to a 41-30 home win.
Despite the standout game from Cargor, Chelsea built a first-quarter lead and slowly expanded it after every quarter. The Bulldogs showed off their depth, with 10 of 11 players scoring and no player scoring more than Megan Hall's nine.
"We've been thinking about it all week," Chelsea coach Todd Blomquist said. "We had to win Tuesday against Monroe, and we knew we had to win tonight. It's good to prepare for next week (the start of districts)."
Hosting Adrian Friday on senior night in Dexter, the Dreadnaughts built an 11-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
"This is nice. I'm especially happy for the seniors," Dexter coach Mike Bavineau said of earning a share of the title. "We missed it by one game last year, so I'm glad we were able to finish it this year for those girls."
Zaryn Jennings led Dexter with a game-high 10 points. Serena Bidwell and Sarah Moir scored eight apiece.
Both teams finished 11-5 in SEC play.
