High school roundup: Saline is top local team at loaded Pioneer golf invitational and more Thursday results
Five of the top 10 Division 1 teams in the state participated at the Pioneer Invitational at the University of Michigan Golf Course on Thursday.
No. 1 Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central protected its spot by shooting a 297, beating unranked Detroit Catholic Central by seven strokes.
Saline’s sixth-place finish (322) was the best of six local squads at the 16-team event. (Scores)
Forest Hills Central senior Andrew Yeager shot a 68 to win medalist honors on what will become his home college course. Yeager is part of Michigan coach Chris Whitten’s first recruiting class.
Dexter (334) was 11th, Pioneer (336) 12th, Huron (337) 13th, Skyline (347) 14th and Chelsea (349) 16th.
Other teams in the D1 top 10 at the event included No. 4 Battle Creek Lakeview (310, 3rd), No. 5 Davison (329, 8th), No. 7 Birmingham Brother Rice (329, 9th) and No. 10 Pinckney (317, 4th).
East Lansing, the No. 4 team in Division 2, finished 15th with a 347. Grosse Ile, No. 5 in Division 3, was seventh with a 329.
