If Huron and Pioneer meet in finals for third straight year, everybody saves on gas costs

By Pete Cunningham

For each of the past two years, the Michigan High School Field Hockey Association state finals have been played at Detroit Country Day High School.

And each of the past two years, Huron and Pioneer players and fans have made a two-hour round trips from Ann Arbor to watch the cross-town rivals play each other for the championship.

Coaches would joke they should just hold the finals in Ann Arbor and save everyone the gas money.

What was said in jest is a reality now. The semifinals and final of the 2010 postseason will be played at Huron High School Oct. 28-30.

Like the past two years, an all-Ann Arbor final is possible … if not likely. Huron and Pioneer occupy the top two seeds in the tournament.

After losing the last two championship matchups, Huron has beat Pioneers twice during the regular season. But never count out the Pioneers, who’ve won five straight state titles.
