Having a winning football is a relatively new experience at Lincoln High School, but you wouldn’t know it by listening to coach Chris Westfall.

Instead of basking in the Railsplitters’ fourth win of the season -- as many victories as Lincoln has celebrated in the past seven years combined -- he was talking about areas of improvement after an 18-13 win over Dexter on Friday night.

Westfall said he was happy to win, but not happy with the Railsplitters’ execution, particularly on drives that stalled deep in Dexter territory.

“We still have flaws,” he said. “But we play good defense and we're tougher mentally than we ever have been."

The Railsplitters did score when they needed to, however.

After a 48-yard run by Dexter quarterback Michael Mioduszewski put the Dreadnaughts ahead by one point with 3:30 left in the game, Lincoln responded with a game-winning drive that was capped with a 1-yard George Miller touchdown with 21 second remaining.

On that winning drive, Lincoln converted a 3rd-and-26 play from its own 12-yard line before marching down the field.

In retrospect, Mioduszewski’s long touchdown run may have been a big play at the wrong time for Dexter.

“I was just trying to get a first down, we had the ball around the 50 and I was just trying to eat clock,” Dexter coach Brian Baird said. “We scored too fast.”

Miller rushed 17 times for 53 yards and two touchdowns for Lincoln and T.J. O’Bryan completed 8-of-18 passes for 114 yards.

Rare Williams, who returned the second half kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, caught five passes for 53 yards.

Mioduszewski completed 13-of-36 passes for 236 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown pass to Jay Lewis in the second quarter.

Lincoln (4-1, 2-1) is now two wins shy of its first playoff berth in school history and finds itself in the thick of the Southeastern Conference White Division race.

Two weeks from now, the Railsplitters will know if they’re real contenders. Up next for Lincoln is SEC White-leading Chelsea and defending division champion Adrian.

“We'll see where we are with Chelsea and with Adrian,” Westfall said.
